Mutant Potatoes

Have you ever purchased a bag of potatoes and found that almost every one of them is very weird looking? I am used to getting a whole bag of oval-shaped tubers. But not this bag. Oh no, this bag was full of the weirdest looking potatoes I've ever seen.

Apparently, they are so strange that pictures of them won't even upload onto Blogger. Seriously, I took pictures of them because they were so unusual, but every time I try to upload the pics, is just doesn't work.

One looks like a heart. Not a real heart, but the heart shaped thing valentines are made of. Another one looks like a heart. A real heart with valves and arteries and veins. I would say that this particular potato is as big as my outstretched hand and is shaped more like a catcher's mitt than an oval. Another one looks like a baby's butt with diaper rash. We ate that one tonight. The diaper rash peeled right off with a vegetable peeler.

Tell me, do potatoes of this shape naturally occur in nature? Does someone at the potato packaging plant yank the oddly shaped spuds from the conveyor belt before they go to the bag? Was the potato inspector sick one day last week? Or was my bag of potatoes on sale because it was full of rejects?
