Mmmm ... Fall

Ok, so I'm sitting here waiting for dinner to COOK ALREADY (lasagna in the oven) and I'm just crazy with hunger! I don't know why, but cooler weather kicks my appetite into LUNATIC mode. To add to the misery, autumn conjures up cravings for particular foods, like doughnuts. Why is it that doughnuts are irrevocably tied to Halloween? I mean, I'm not complaining -- any reason to eat doughnuts is a good reason to me -- but, why fall and doughnuts? Why cider and doughnuts? Does anyone out there know?

Truth be told, when it comes to food, I'm like a carbon copy of Homer Simpson. I totally relate to the "Mmmmm ... (insert name of food here)" philosophy, as in, "Mmmm ... doughnuts," or "Mmmmm ... bacon." Which leads me to my next craving-as-of-late: honey crisp apples. These things are the bomb! They cost more, but if you like apples, you will LOVE this variety. They are not too sweet and not too sour (so everyone likes them) and they are sooooo crispy and sooooo juicy. Yum! They only come around during the fall, so don't delay!

Of course, any apple is even better drenched in caramel and rolled in peanuts. Whoever thought of this was a true genius.

And, finally, the kettle corn. This is a treat I never had as a kid. I don't why, but I don't remember seeing kettle corn until just a few years ago. I'm sure it was there all along -- I just was not exposed to its salty sweet goodness until adulthood. The best thing about kettle corn is that they sell it to you in hugemongus bags like this little girl is holding.

I'm laughing as I read this cause I TRY to go to water aerobics on Wednesday nights. Well I got home, and it was cold out, and my hubby had cooked chili and I said hell, I'm staying in and eating! And I LOVE honeycrisp apples, and yes, they are very costly. Last year we went to Patterson and bought two of the big containers and our bill was like $60 and we just looked at each other like what did we just buy...

I can eat an entire bag of kettle corn by myself -- in one sitting. Which is wierd because I usually don't like to mix my salty and my sweet. But kettle corn -- ah, yes, kettle corn -- is the exception. :)

I love fall, too!!! My mom always bought powdered donuts and cider and that's something I do for my class each fall...I guess this year it'll be just Maya and me eating them since I am still home, which really means just me! (Mmmmm!!!)

Polaris Fashion Mall has a store that specializes in apples on a stick - carmel apples, chocolate, marshmallow, rocky road, m&ms, etc.
It's a hard store to pass by.
The Mohican Bluegrass festival used to have a powdered sugar donut vendor that sold dreamy donuts in the chill of the evening. I loved her, but she was old & hasn't been around the past few years. I wish someone would take her gig.
I hungry. I go eat now. I piggy in fall, too!

Yesterday I bought Honey Crisps & they are good. Chad liked them too & it's hard to get him to eat much fruit. Then I had a Mcintosh Apple shot at the bar. It tasted & smelled just like a Mcintosh - Incredible!

Thank you for the invite to your blog. It looks like we are both inline for a region. I was very happy to see a picture of Andrea as I have yet to see her.

Good luck on this journey, your outlook through your blog is great, I am so happy to actually read an optimistic blog, even in these times, optimism sure beats pessimism.
