Semey

I’m writing this post in a state of delirium and sudden-onset insomnia. It is 4:17 in the AM and all I can think about is traveling to Siberian-bordering Semey in the heart of winter.

To borrow a line from Goon Squad Sarah, YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT. YOU HEARD ME. We’ve been assigned to Semey and we might even travel by the end of the year!!!! I have to tell you, I’ve been blind-sided. I am so shocked right now. And the worst part is that I HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION. We are having carpet installed in our living room tomorrow morning, so we had to move everything out of that room – including our router/modem/whatever. As you can see, I am very computer illiterate when it comes to the do-hickies and the whoseewhatsits. Otherwise, I’d be putting it all back together right now just to get online.

I want to post this post now! I want to check out the Yahoo group for Semey PAPs (prospective adoptive parents). I want to email people. I want to check everyone else’s blog and see if there are any others who might have gotten good news. I want to look up Semey and read more about it. AHHHH!!!!

Instead, I sit here on my couch (which has been moved to the dining room along with all the other living room furniture), typing this on Word, because sleep just ‘aint happenin’. I even considered calling my parents (who are probably also unable to sleep) and going to their house to use their internet, drink coffee, and just plain embrace the whole being awake thing. Stan will not embrace the being awake thing, but he is awake. I just heard him stirring. I mean, hey, a lot of people are awake at 4:30.

Anyway, the really good news is that Semey is a well-established region for our agency, so there should be no major surprises (fingers crossed). The other really good thing is that Semey still follows the “usual” Kaz timeline of being in country for the 14-day bonding period and court (this usually takes about 3 weeks) and six weeks later, the baby can come home to stay. We are going to try to use the escort option. We will leave Kaz after our three-week stay, and six weeks later, a Kaz escort will bring the baby to us here. We don’t have a firm timeline yet, but we should receive some kind of estimate in November or early December as to when we’ll be traveling.

Yay!!!!!!!!

Oh Michelle, I am so happy for you guys! And one of your recent posts indicated nothing was gonna happen for a while. It would be so cool if it would happen this year.

Nothing like getting the heart pumping from GREAT NEWS!!!!!

As someone told me, welcome to the adoption diet. It first begins with excitement and continues with anxiety until you reach Kaz. Then I think the food part starts. I will let you know next week:)
