Back in the U.S.A.

Click on the PLAY button to watch Charlie crawling to Mommy.

We made it home last night after 29 hours of flights and layovers. We didn't have any major problems, but just to be on planes and in airports with no bed, no shower, and little sleep for 29 hours is pretty darn grueling.

Ok, I just sat here staring at the computer screen for 5 minutes. I guess I am pretty wiped out. I have so many things to say about our overall experience, but I think that I'll have to save that for another day.

For all of you who are waiting for Stan to post a conclusion to his banya cliff-hanger, I'm sorry to report that he will not be writing about it. I can, however, report that the banya involved nudity and the light striking of birch branches against skin. It was very hot -- hotter than any sauna in the U.S. -- and Stan thoroughly enjoyed it. I think he was a little bit worried about the nudity part, but once they arrived and saw that there were boys and men of all ages and that it was not "weird," he had a very relaxing and truly Kaz experience.

And, don't worry, he was able to find beer with Pasha. When Pasha said, "Baby! No beer!" he was explaining that because of the nearby kindergarten, no beer was sold on that corner. If you walk a few doors down, you will find beer.

We miss Charlie and it seems surreal to be home without him. We have over 800 pictures and about 150 short video clips to remind us of our time at the Baby House. Leaving Charlie was a gut-wrenching experience for me. Fortunately, Stan remained upbeat and really helped me feel better. We are both happy, however, to be reunited with Esther. She follows us from room and room and hops onto our laps every time we sit down. She is cat-napping on my legs as I write this. It's good to be home.

Welcome home! Get your rest now because once Charlie is home, the word "rest" will go out of your vocabulary ;)

So glad you made it back safely. Charlie is doing great and is all smiles everyday! I am not sure but perhaps after you writing about the banya, nudity, striking with branches and Stan liking it, perhaps he should say something on the blog! Shauna

You better hope they bring him home quickly or he's going to make a break for it on his own. When we were taking Keira back last night he was in the walker and the second the door opened he came flying out laughing. I swear he really believed he could make it out of the building before they caught him. Every time we see him when we pick her up we say hi, I'll try and get a picture in the next couple of days to get you a Charlie fix. I'm sure 800 pictures are not nearly enough right now! If I were you, I would be spending this time buying some triple reinforced baby gates- that boy is ready to GO!!!!!!
